This community is intended for those of us of Canadian Aboriginal heritage.
I created this community to serve the Canadian Native community. There are several other *GREAT* native LJ comms, but they tend to have alot of US tribal information. (Not that that is bad!)
Of course, there are always going to be some rules. The one that I am concerned with is being respectful of each other. We are adults, and should act like it. No flame wars, and ABSOLUTELY no racial bigotry. You will find yourself removed very quickly. Don't delete your postings, if you felt it enough to write it, feel it enough to stand by it. If your feelings change after, WRITE that along with the original post. That gives everyone the opportunity to witness your growth.
You DON'T need to be of Aboriginal descent to join, all you need is an interest in our culture and history.
If you post a long article or a large picture, be polite and use an LJ-cut tag. Many thanks for this!
Upon joining, please post this survey so we can get to know you...
To introduce yourself to the community, please use this quick survey:
Are you aboriginal?
If so, which nation(s) do you belong to?
Are you enrolled in these nations? (And no, we will not pick on you if you say no to this question)
Do you reside on a reservation?
Do you participate in traditional/religious activities?
Have you ever been to a PowWow? Have you participated or just watched?
Have you always grown up with your aboriginal heritage, or are you having to reclaim it?
Do you speak a First Nations language?
What is the most important part of being an aboriginal?
For those not of a First Nation ancestry: What brings you here?
